In 1994 a small software company, called ManTech (UK) Limited, which specialised in manufacturing software was bought by Keith Knowles, and the following year Richard Pickard joined the company as joint owner and Managing Director.
In 1997 PWS Ltd. (part of A – Z Holdings Ltd.), then the largest Dental Laboratory in the UK with 200 employees, started looking for a system to help them run their business. They approached ManTech to amend its manufacturing software to suit the Laboratory’s requirements, particularly for scheduling and progress management (then using barcode technology).
PWS went live in early 1999 and the system proved to be very successful – so much so that other Laboratories wanted to buy the system.
The decision was taken that ManTech would concentrate its resources on the Laboratory market, building on the knowledge and experience gained from these early successes.
The new product was named LabTRAC and was launched to the industry at an exhibition in October 1999. Since that time Richard’s sales and marketing experience has led to over 100 Laboratories in the UK taking the system.
In 2001 ManTech (UK) Limited was renamed Inventrix limited, and Inventrix Inc was incorporated in Massachusetts, USA.
In the previous year we had visited the major US exhibition for the Dental Industry and looked at the Laboratory systems on offer – our initial thoughts were that LabTRAC offered more than those products on view. During October / November we re-visited the US to show our products to two selected groups of Laboratory owners which has confirmed our initial thoughts – LabTRAC has very significant advantages over existing products.
In 2001 a ‘beta group’ of US laboratories worked with Inventrix Inc to produce the latest version of Labtrac, which was tuned to the requirements of the American market. In January 2002 the new product was launched to the US Terec group at a meeting in St. Louis. The first Terec customer was Expertec, of Detroit, who went live on the new system in June 2001 and since that time Inventrix Inc., with Richard Pickard as CEO, have continued to expand each year.
